#89: Illustrator: Jon Kutt: "A good-natured pile of garbage"
This week I'm chatting and having some laughs with local illustrator and graphic designer Jon Kutt (The High Road Design) - Jon may draw from his adolescence for his art, but his approach is wise and mature. Jon has learned some things and he tells me about how at 46 he came back to drawing, leaving bitterness behind and embracing "Titface" as his Mona Lisa. It's a really fantastic chat.
#85: Illustrator: Isabel Carreńo: "With a just few lines, you can see who the person is"
This week on the podcast we continue our European convos with Isabel Carreńo, an illustrator from Spain. Isabel's work captures the essence of the french cinema, rockstars, and icons like Audrey Hepburn with just a few perfect lines. Her illustrations and pretty and classic, I love them.
#78: Illustrator: Mel Milton: Buckle Up, here goes Mel
This week's creative person is illustrator Mel Milton - He is an illustrator from Utah who has worked for Disney and Marvel and 2 volumes of his own "dooks" (listen to find out what that means... haha) Mel and I had a fantastic evening chatting about his long journey to liking himself and how that was the key to finding his artistic voice. He tells me about being homeless and how money and some fame are essential if you want to help other people. Great one. Do it up.
#64: Illustrator: Julie Campbell: "I'm trying but it's not cute yet"
This week I'm chatting mental health and Pokémon with illustrator Julie Campbell. Julie, or Jushmu is an artist that makes cute and colourful pins, prints and stickers and it was an absolute pleasure to get to know her. We talk about how creativity and anxiety often go hand and hand, being complicated and drawings of cute girls for cute girls sake. Great episode!
Writer / Illustrator: “Hope Larson - Butt-In-The-Chair Person”
This week on the pod I am talking with Writer / Illustrator Hope Larson. Hope has won multiple Eisner Award winner, she worked on Batgirl over at DC and she just released her newest book, All Together Now. We had a great chat, Hope has a great perspective on creativity, getting your butt in the chair and doing your work and I loved her take on bagged milk. Good one, do it up.
Illustrator: Andrew Kolb - “Secret Societies & Demons on Earth”
This weekend on the podcast I'm chatting with Illustrator Andrew Kolb. Man, I had a great time with Andrew - you have probably seen his work at your local bookstore - his credits include Edmund Unravels, & Spider-Man Swings through Europe. Andrew and I had a great chat about scaring kids, the publishing world & the things that we love in life. Great one, do it up!
Illustrator: Isaiah Dunk "Making Things Move"
Today on the podcast I'm joined by Isaiah Dunk, he is an illustrator and first year student at Sheridan for animation. He's a great guy and it was super interesting to get a younger persons perspective on school, animation and creativity. Good one, do it up!
Illustrator: Adam Sanford - "Tom & Jerry"
Today on the podcast I'm joined by Illustrator Adam Sanford - we talk about The Mandalorian, being dads, and the dangerous things we got up to growing up. Great guy, listen up!
Episode 10: Illustrator: Ann Alonso: "Connections & Cute Creations in Digital Worlds"
This week I chat with cute-thing maker and illustrator Ann Alonso! Animal Crossing, Shawn Wasabi, and finding love in Assassin's Creed. We had a great conversation about making things that bring people joy and forming connections in our increasingly digital based world!
